1. Overview
VirtualTri is an app or online-based structured triathlon league that runs virtually throughout the year.
It is designed to make triathlon participation more accessible, inclusive, and flexible.
The league includes competitive seasons, community virtual races, an XP-based leveling system, and optional merchandise and reward tiers.
2. League Structure
Each season runs over two months and includes 8 virtual events.
There are 4 seasons per year:
Summer: January – February | Off: March
Autumn: April – May | Off: June
Winter: July – August | Off: September
Spring: October – November | Off: December
Events must be completed between Friday 06:00 and Sunday 20:00. Events completed outside these times will not be accepted.
Results must be submitted before Monday 10:00. Late submissions will not be considered.
Results and updated leaderboards are published every Tuesday.
3. Divisions
There are two competition divisions:
Social League: XP 0–39 – Intended for beginners and leisure participants
Elite League: XP 40–99 – For experienced and competitive triathletes
XP (experience points) is your experience level and determines the division you will be allowed to compete in. This structure ensures fair competition for all athletes.
4. Age Categories
Gender: Male / Female
Age Groups: 16–19, 20–29, 30–39, 40–49, 50–59, 60+
Overall results will include Open rankings for men and women across all age groups. Results will be available for Open and Age group rankings.
Categories may move to 5-year increments at the discretion of league management.
5. Race Participation and Formats
Each weekly event offers 2–3 distance options: Super Sprint, Sprint, Olympic, Half Iron, Full Iron (when applicable).
Participants will choose their preferred distance each week.
Official, timed in-person races will be included when possible and offer bonus points.
Official timed events (e.g. parkrun, road races, triathlons) earn +1 bonus point per discipline, up to +3 for a triathlon, if official result photo proof is submitted. This promotes participation in real-world races.
6. Scoring System
Points are awarded weekly based on distance and placement. Total points contribute to season standings.
Results are published weekly.
